Mediation Skills for Foster Families

The goal of the training: To prevent/resolve conflicts in foster families by ensuring the availability of family mediation services in order to protect the right of an orphan child and a child deprived of parental care to live in a safe family environment.

Tasks:

  • working through the concepts of: adoption, guardianship/custody, foster families, family-type orphanages, and patronage families;
  • studying the issue of "attachment disorders" in children who have been in residential institutions;
  • researching the psychological and behavioral difficulties that families who have taken a child into their care face;
  • studying and working through one's own and societal introjects regarding orphans and children deprived of parental care, as well as regarding families who take in children;
  • developing the skill of communicating with a child deprived of parental care, taking into account their age and history of alienation and mistrust;
  • researching various options for the functioning of family systems with adopted children (only adopted children, biological older and adopted younger children, biological younger and adopted older children, "the secret of adoption," the degree of intervention of third parties (including biological parents), etc.);
  • practicing mediation skills in cases involving foster parents and children deprived of parental care.
